Jessica Green

Picture
I’m Jessica, and I’m on a mission to paint 500 paintings.  I’ve never done anything like this before, but I want to grow in my painting ability--and this is a challenge that will give me motivation to take my desire more seriously! So, I'm setting out in a spirit of discipline to try to improve my skills and also grow in my love for painting. Here it goes!!!

My professional background is in elementary art education. I was public school art teacher for seven years and in 2010, I started Art Venture LLC, which is my little art teaching gig. But most importantly, I’m a mom of two wonderful kiddos...who strives to love and follow God each day while maintaining a messy house, connecting with friends, & loving my kids and husband.

Why 500?

One of my biggest inspirations is artist Carol Marine. I've never met her in person, but have been following her online for years and have recently purchased several of her online art tutorials. Carol is a part of an online community of artists who call themselves 'daily painters'. (Check out the website dailypaintworks.com to view new art each day, and also access art tutorials, called 'ArtBytes').

In Carol's ArtByte titled, 'My Take on Daily Painting', she builds a strong case for painting small and painting frequently to quickly grow your skills. (This ArtByte is free, and is a great read...I highly recommend it, even if you aren't a painter!) She writes,"This might be tough to hear, but you should see learning to paint as a long term commitment. Painting is HARD! You can't expect to become a master in only a year, or even five. Expect to paint at least 500 paintings before you are consistantly proud of your work ..." Carol also advocates for painting 'alla prima' which means 'all-in-one-go' or starting and finishing a painting in one session, which is what I like to do.

So, that's my goal, 500 paintings. How long will it take? Probably around four years (officially starting March 2013). Each week, I'll be trying to paint 1-2 times. I hope to grow a ton both personally and artistically through this experience.

I'd love for you to join me in this journey by following my progress on this blog. It will be just that, a journey (and trust me, I'm equally nervous and excited!)...so expect to see some 'bad art' along the way! ha ha  I will greatly appreciate your encouragement and support as I hopefully find a new joy and new confidence in painting!
