Painting No. 5, 5x7in, oil on gessoboard $30, click here to purchase Here's my first attempt painting on gessoboard as opposed to canvas. I've noticed that a lot of artists that I like on www.dailypaintworks.com are using gessoboard, so I wanted to try it out. The smooth surface makes it easy to create loose, quick brushstrokes, but the downside (for me as a beginner) is controlling the paint...it's so slippery! Also: Prepare to see more oranges in the future, I love 'em and I always have them in the fridge, so they will probably end up being one on my go-to subjects. :)

Painting No. 4, 5x7in, oil on canvasboard Auction, click here to bid (starting at $1!) Okay, I am proud of how this one came out. Yea! My first satisfying painting on my journey to 500! I set up this little still life with pears that I had bought at the grocery and surrounded them with pieces of construction paper. The colors are nice and bright, I'm pleased with the composition and brushwork too.
Painting No. 3, 6x6in, oil on canvasboard I'm not too crazy about this one, but it was a good excercise in working on brush strokes. I set up the teapot on my kitchen table with a flood light, then the background ended up being imaginary and I went for a secondary color scheme: violet, orange, and green (appear aqua on screen).
No. 2, 6x6in, oil on canvasboard $30, click here to purchase This was painted without a visual (I usually paint from life or from a photo) and I started the canvas by painting it a solid orange first. I like letting spots of that orange show through creating fun constrast with the main blues and greens from the landscape.
