Painting No. 18, 6x6in, oil on gessoboard
The ground (meaning the backgroud tone or color that I add first to the painting surface) was a dark brown/grey which made creating this piece seem unquie from the beginning. I set up this still life on my kitchen table and 'forced' myself to paint even though I wasn't really in the mood. The effort ended up paying off, and I was pleased with the results. I used the bristle brushes on gessoboard for this one, which made the brush strokes more pronounced.
